Athletic Hybrids / Developmental Wings

Kanon Catchings

6’9” | Sophomore | High Ceiling Swing | Georgia

At 6’9 with NBA length, fluid movement, and elite athleticism, Kanon Catchings looks the part immediately. He glides on the floor, covers space defensively, and has the physical profile NBA teams covet in long, switchable wings. If you were drafting bodies alone, he’d be near the top of the board. He shows real flashes on offense, he has a fluid jumper, is shooting 34.6% from three, and has shown the ability to hit shots off the dribble.  When he’s in rhythm, he looks dangerous. The issue is consistency. His scoring comes in waves, some games he looks like a future star, other nights he fades into the background. That lack of polish is the reason he’s not a top 10 lock. Given his physical tools he has massive defensive upside. With his length and athleticism, he has the pieces to be a defensive disruptor across multiple positions. He can switch, contest shots, and create chaos when locked in. We just haven’t seen massive actual disruption and statistical production on the defensive end from him yet. But this is exactly the kind of prospect NBA teams should gamble on. If the shooting becomes consistent and the game slows down for him, his ceiling is significantly higher than most wings in this class. As a sophomore he's still extremely young and development within an NBA organization could be the best thing for him.  HAS ALL THE TOOLS CAN HE PUT IT TOGETHER

Tounde Yessoufou

6’5 215 | Strong Wing Scorer | Baylor

Yessoufou is a strong, athletic wing who puts pressure on defenses with his strength and ability to score. At 6'5 with a strong frame, Yessafou plays through contact and embraces physical matchups. Averaging 18.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, Yessafou has a lot of success rebounding on the offensive boards and creating second chance opportunities for his team. His success defensively comes from his physicality and relentless high motor pursuit. His steal percentage is top 10 in the big 12 and he averages 2.1 steals per game. He is an aggressive physical defender that disrupts ball handlers, and uses his body well to bother wings. The tools are clearly there for him to become a strong on ball and team defender. Yessofou’s swing skill is shooting. He’s currently at 31% from three at high volume (139 attempts).  However, Yessofou is unfazed by misses and doesn’t shy away from taking open shots, which suggests belief in his jumper and room for growth. If his threeball can become more efficient, Yessoufou becomes a much more intriguing prospect as a two way athletic wing.

CJ Gunn

6’7” | Wing | High Ceiling Athlete | Depaul

Gunn is a high ceiling athletic wing whose game is built on speed, bounce, and shot making flashes. Gunn is a true high flyer 6’7 explosive off two feet, fast in the open floor, and able to make plays above the rim. He moves extremely well laterally and covers ground quickly on defense, deflects a lot of passes and has real potential as a multi position stopper. Gunn’s jumper is a major selling point. It’s fluid, quick, and confident, and he’s comfortable taking tough shots. While the raw numbers (34.5% from three) don’t jump off the page, the mechanics and willingness to shoot suggest improvement. He’s not hesitant at all with his shot which I believe matters and has a quick NBA Type release and is not afraid to pull off the dribble. Where Gunn separates himself from a lot of athletic wings is feel for shot creation. He’s by no means a standing dunk, catch and shoot guy, he can create space, shoot off the dribble, and score at speed. The development question is discipline: shot selection, playing within structure, and three point consistency. In the right organization Gunn has the tools to become a 3 and D wing with scoring juice.

Barry Dunning Jr.

6’6” | Athletic Wing Defender | Pitt

At 6’6 with an impressive vertical leap and explosiveness as a finisher in space, Barry Dunning is a top tier athlete. He is a relentless downhill attacker and defensive disruptor who shoots the outside shot. Averaging 11.6 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. Dunning's athleticism has a direct impact. He contests shots fiercely, provides helpside rim protection and has the physical tools to guard 1-3. He’s currently shoots 31.5% from three, but he takes threes with confidence and real volume (130 attempts). He’s already shown his shooting ceiling, including a 7 for 11 performance from deep this year.  Dunning could be an NBA 3 and D wing if he develops a consistent outside jumper. Given his athletic profile, and shooting confidence, he’s the type of player who could develop into a shooter at the NBA level.
